Friends assaulted in Clayton-le-Woods

First published in News

Two friends were assaulted as they walked home from a house party in Clayton-le-Woods.

The attack took place at around 11.30pm when the 40-year-old man and his 37-year-old female friend were walking along a path from Barleyfield to Radburn Brow by The Lord Nelson pub.

They were approached by two young women, one of whom made a random accusation toward the man claiming he had attacked her.

The friends continued walking towards Radburn Brow but were confronted by a man, in company with two or three other men who made threats towards them.

This man then launched an unprovoked and sustained attack on the two friends.

The man suffered bruising to the ribs and face and his friend bruising to her left eye and small cuts to her face.

PC Stuart Hart said: “This assault has left both friends deeply shaken and we need the public’s help to catch the man responsible.

“It happened between housing estates in an area which is partly lit and is not covered by CCTV so we urgently need witnesses to come forward or to speak with anyone that was in the area around the time of the offence that saw anyone acting suspiciously.”

Anyone with information about the incident, which happened on Saturday, August 24, should call PC Stuart on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
