'Illegal rave' broken up by Chorley police

Police undertook a three-hour operation to disperse an illegal ‘rave’ which took place in Rivington at the weekend.

Officers were called to a public car park on Dean Head Lane in the village at around 10.30pm on Saturday, May 15.

They found around 100 people at the event, where two marquees had been erected and amplified music was being played.

It is believed the party was organised on social networking sites.

Officers from Lancashire Constabulary’s eastern division joined police from the Chorley area in dispersing the crowd who were eventually cleared by around 1.50am.

No arrests were made at the scene.

Sgt Kevin Mountain said two principal organisers were identified and would be interviewed in relation to providing unlicensed entertainment.

Various items of electrical equipment used to play amplified music were confiscated at the scene.
