CHORLEY Library has been named ‘the most disability friendly local public service’ in the town.

The Harold Rimmer Memorial Award was presented at a special event by The Chorley and South Ribble Disability Forum.

The award, created in honour of one of the Forum’s founding members and long-term chairman who died last year, is given to shops, businesses or a public service that shows excellence in understanding the needs of disabled customers.

Donald Brooks os the area manager for Lancashire County Council Library and Information Service.

He said: “We are delighted to receive this prestigious award.

"It not only emphasises the access improvements we have made at the library for people with disabilities, but also reflects the excellent customer service and helpfulness of our staff.

“ Some have even made the effort to learn to communicate using Makaton and we are always delighted to welcome all customers into the library.”
