HOUSEHOLDERS in South Ribble can deal with their council tax information online and even receive their bill online as an alternative to getting it through the post.
People can log on to view their account online, pay a bill by direct debit, change their address and apply for or cancel a single-person discount, all at the click of a mouse.
Residents who want to apply for benefits can find all the necessary forms via their online account and will be taken through a clear application process without the worry of making mistakes on paper.
Landlords will also benefit as the system allows them manage payments quickly and easily.
All the forms the system uses have been designed so they take as little time to complete as possible.
Councillor Susan Snape, South Ribble Borough Council’s cabinet member for finance, said: "Some people prefer to receive their council tax bills in the post, but this online facility is very convenient and will be popular with many.
"It is environmentally friendly as it reduces the amount of paper that the council will need to use and, for residents, it takes the hassle out of making payments manually and helps them keep on top of their bills.
"I would certainly encourage people to sign up."
The system also has a search function that is useful to people who are considering moving to a new property within South Ribble.
People can simply enter the address or postcode of the property to find out which council tax band it is in and how much they would have to pay if they lived there.
All interactions with the accounts are encrypted to protect personal details when they are transmitted over the internet.
