A Chorley theatre company is holding open auditions for a forthcoming performance of the Shakesperian love classic, Romeo and Juliet.

Say Two Professional Production Company, based at The Carrington Centre, Eccleston, is looking for local people to be part of the company's summer outdoor production which is scheduled to tour across the north west.

It is a opportunity not to be missed for all would-be thespians as those selected will perform alongside professional actors.

The auditions are for parts in the play's three major chorus scenes and those lucky enough to win a place will rehearse with the company's artistic director and choreographer, Christine Appleby, and Say Two's professional fight directors.

There will even be an opportunity to wear the traditional costumes and learn to sword fight.

Open auditions take place on Saturday May 31 at the Eccleston studios, at 2pm.

People who want to see the show are urged to bring their school-age children in particular as Romeo and Juliet is on next year's SAT's set text for all year 9 students, Christine said.

It is also a popular GCSE text and is the most widely studied Shakespeare play, she claims.

A free director's talk is planned prior to performances.

Christine said: "With stunning sword fights and dynamic dance routines, this performance is superb for everybody studying or interested in this play and anybody keen in innovative theatre."

To be part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, call Say Two Production Company on 01257 453956 for more information and to put you name down.

Romeo and Juliet is touring to the following North West venues.

  • Pennington Park, Wigan - 21st June
  • Bank Hall, Rufford - 28th June
  • Kingswood College at Scarisbrick Hall - 5th July
  • Brougham Hall, Penrith - 11th/12th July
  • Heskin Hall, Heskin - 19th July
  • Chester - 26th July.
