Euxton pensioner dies after road accident

Tributes have been paid to an Euxton pensioner who died following a crash while cycling in Charnock Richard.
The collision happened at around 10.30am on Saturday on the A49 Preston Road at the junction with Church Road when a Mercedes Box van collided with a pedal cycle.
The cyclist, Brian Heap, 74 was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital but later died.
The family of Mr Heap issued a statement describing their sorrow.
It said: “Brian was a retired university lecturer who lived life to the absolute full. He was a very active man who maintained an unbelievable level of fitness. He enjoyed cycling, walking and playing tennis at a club level. He also travelled extensively “Although he did not marry he was a "father figure" and a great advisor and friend to all his nieces, nephews, great nephews and nieces and of course his sister who he visited regularly in Scotland.
“He will be remembered with great fondness and missed incredibly, the void will be huge."
Sgt Malcolm Bell, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact us.
“Understandably this is an extremely difficult time for the family or Mr Heap and we have specially trained officers supporting them.”
