Cash boost for Euxton schools

Two primary schools in Euxton have received a funding boost of £60,000 from Lancashire County Council.

Euxton Church of England Primary and St Mary’s Catholic Primary were handed the money from the council’s extended schools capital allocation to support projects at both schools.

Euxton Church of England has been granted funding of £43,500, which will enable it to build an extra room attached to school which will house the before and after school clubs, and a holiday club in future years.

During the day the room will be used for meetings, training and courses and ‘catch up’ intervention programmes for pupils. The whole project is costing nearly £100,000.

St Mary’s has received nearly £20,000 to provide a friendly and accessible room for parents within school, enabling easy access to information, opportunities for informal drop-in sessions and formal group sessions or meetings.

County Coun Marks Perks, who represents Euxton, said: “A school providing access to extended services is one that provides access to a range of services and activities, often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community.

“Back in May 2009 all schools were invited to submit proposals for capital projects which met at least one of the criteria laid down in relation to extended services. This is really good news for two excellent schools in Euxton who applied.”
