POLICE were lying in wait for a drink driver after being tipped off by his sister.

Blackburn magistrates heard the siblings had fallen out and Jack Christopher Turner drove away from her home in Bacup.

Turner, 21, of Melbourne Street, Clayton-le-Moors, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was fined £275 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

Enza Geldard, prosecuting, said police had been alerted about a possible drink-driver and a stinger had been set up in case he didn’t stop.

Simon Lloyd, defending, said his client’s sister had been responsible for the tip-off.

“Following a row he decided to drive home and in a fit of pique she has told the police he had been drinking,” said Mr Lloyd. “I don’t know what else she told them to make them think they needed a stinger. He was only just over the limit.”
