THERE had been meals on wheels but this photograph from the Lancashire Telegraph archives shows the time when books on wheels took to the streets of Pendle.
Library Assistant Christine Carradice and driver Jack Mason were preparing to head out on the road for the first time in one of the first mobile libraries in the county.
The well-stocked shelves clearly offered plenty of choice for residents on the route of the specially-adapted vehicle which soon became a popular sight around Nelson and Colne.
