Remembrance services held across East Lancashire this morning to honour those killed in war

It saw the nation pause for two minutes at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month to reflect on the sacrifices of the country's service men and women from conflicts past and present.

In Darwen, around a hundred people attended a remembrance service held at Darwen Town Hall, which saw people lay wreaths outside the memorial near the market.

While the procession saw Chris Holding and Bob Aldcroft perform the Last Post to remember the fallen.

The event was attended by Darwen mayor Roy Davies, along with Blackburn with Darwen Council deputy mayor Cllr Pat McFall.

Elsewhere in Clitheroe, The Ribble Valley mayor & mayoress attended a national pause to remember at Clitheroe Castle with the Clitheroe town mayor at 11am.

A lot of the memorial services in East Lancashire will be held tomorrow, with events taking place at St Thomas' Church, Helmshore at 9am on Sunday followed by services at Greenfield Memorial Gardens, on Manchester Road, Haslingden at 1pm and a parade in Rawtenstall at 2.25pm from the town square to the cenotaph outside St Mary’s Church.

In Blackburn, the ringing for the civic service of remembrance will be held at Blackburn Cathedral, on Cathedral Close on Sunday from 9.30am followed by a parade along King William Street.

A remembrance service will be held at Burnley Peace Garden, on Peace Street, at 10.45am where the mayor will be in attendance.

Following the service the party will move to Burnley Police Station where soldiers will be saluted as the parade passes. The mayor will then a lay a wreath at the town’s cenotaph at Towneley Park.

While in Darwen tomorrow, buses will run from Darwen Town Hall at 10.10am to the cenotaph at Bold Venture Park, Belgrave Road at 11am on Sunday. A service will later be held at St Peter’s Church, on Church Street at 12pm.

In Hyndburn, remembrance services will be held in Accrington, Altham, Church, Great Harwood, Huncoat, Baxenden, Oswaldwistle, Clayton-le-Moors and Rishton.

In Accrington, there will be a service at cenotaph at Oakhill Park, in Manchester Road, at 10.40am followed by a civic parade. Free transport will be available at 10am at Accrington Bus Station.

In Oswaldwistle there will be a parade along Union Road to the war memorial on Rhyddings Street for combined service and laying of wreaths on Thwaites Street on Sunday at 2.10pm.

On Sunday, there will also be a procession held from Billington Gardens, Billington, to the cenotaph at 2.30pm. A wreath will then be laid by the mayor as part of a remembrance service at 3pm.

In Pendle, the main service will be taking place in Colne at 11am on Sunday.

The mayor will be in attendance as a procession will be held from the British Legion Club down Albert Road to the Cenotaph.

A remembrance service will also be held at Nelson war memorial, in Market Square from 2pm on Sunday.

In Padiham a remembrance service will take place at Padiham Unitary Chapel, on Church Street at 9.45am followed by a parade to the Padiham war memorial.
