WORLD superbike champion Carl Fogarty suffered multiple injuries after coming off his bike during a competition on Sunday.

The Blackburn four-time World Superbike Champion and I’m A Celebrity winner, 52, was airlifted to hospital after breaking 10 ribs, puncturing a lung and breaking a shoulder blade during the DirtQuake race in Norfolk.

Posting on Facebook, he said: “Mrs F has come down to Kings Lynn to see me.

“I did have 10 broken ribs..I’ve now 11 and a really bad headache! Thanks for all the messages guys it means a lot.

“Gonna be in a while.. a few concerns over this collapsed lung getting infected.

“Hopefully be ok and will be back up and about soon.”

In an earlier post, he promised his wife he would not do another race. Before the crash he had won five out of the six race heats and was favourite to win three of the finals.

DirtQuake is described as an ‘alternative motoring festival’ with the action taking place on ‘high-adrenaline, loose-surface oval circuits without the hassle, rules and costs usually associated with motorsport’.

Fogarty, nicknamed the Blackburn Bullet, won his world crowns in 1994, 1995, 1998 and 1999.
