The Formula One circus may be heading to Silverstone this week in preparation for the British Grand Prix Sunday but back in the 1970s East Lancashire had its own racing circuit.
In this photograph from the Lancashire Telegraph archives, the sun was shining and motor sports enthusiasts headed to the Ribble Valley to watch a full day’s racing.
Spectators went to great lengths to get the best possible vantage point including climbing up on the large rocky outcrop which can be seen overlooking the straight running across the picture.
For car lovers , it’s well worth studying the car park in the foreground which has a wide range of vehicles including the Morris Marina, the Cortina, the Mini and even a Renault 4. See if you can spot it.
