A FLOOD warning has been put in place for residents of East Lancashire overnight.
Met Office bosses have issued a yellow weather warning set to last until 2am tomorrow.
They have predicted 20 to 30mm of rain may fall within an hour in some areas across the North West.
A Met Office spokesman said: "While these storms may miss many places, where they do develop intense downpours are likely, brining the threat of sudden flooding of roads, transport routes, homes and businesses.
"Lightning and hail may be additional hazards."
