SPOONFULS of the world’s finest foods were available to try at the Great British Food Festival this weekend.

Stonyhurst College was full a whole host of stalls and shops showcasing different delights.

As well as feasting on cuisine, visitors were able to witness a variety of chef demonstrations yesterday. The festival will continue today and tomorrow.

There were sweet and savoury eating challenges, as well as cake judging and tasting competitions.

Music fans will be entertained by an array of acts including Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Ella Shaw, from Langho, Darwen’s Leah Haworth and the Wirral Ukulele Band.

Miss Shaw said she could not wait to perform.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to be playing at Stonyhurst today and tomorrow.

“I have been performing in Manchester, Newcastle and all over the country so it will be great to come back home.

“My sister goes to the school so it will be sentimental to play there.

“I’ve not been to the festival before and my friends and I are going to have a look around and see what it has to offer.”

In its fifth year, the event is also providing a kids cooking corner for youngsters to try their hand.

Talks on artisan food and drinks are also taking place, as well as a tour of the 16th Century private school.

Becky Grigg, the school's enterprise director, said she anticipates a busy weekend.

She said: “The events attract thousands of people all over the country.

“Friday went really well, there was lots of people here.

“The weather held off and we hope that continues over the weekend.

“I would encourage everyone to come down to the college and sample the delicious food, have a drink, and enjoy a great atmosphere.”

The event will open from 10am and close at 5pm on both days.

Tickets cost £8 for adults, £7 for seniors and £5 for children, under fives go free.
