PEOPLE from across East Lancashire’s are gearing up to hit the streets of the capital tomorrow for the London Marathon.

They will join thousands of runners at the big race who will raise millions of pounds for charity.

Among those taking part is Jane Hylands, 45, from Whalley, a Clayton-le-Moors Harriers member, who is raising £500 for Whalley Junior Phab Club.

Kathryn Ashcroft-Gardner, 42, from Darwen, is running her first marathon for ‘Climb’, a charity that helps children who suffer with inherited metabolic conditions.

She said: I’ve been trying to get a place for seven years and I’m very excited to take part.

“I have raised £2,100 so far and I’ll be proud to represent Climb and my running club, the Blackburn Road Runners.”

Other runners include Nicola Nuttal, 47, from Barrowford, who will be donning a dress, cape hat and broom as she attempts to set a record as the fastest Pendle ‘witch’ to take part in the marathon.

Catherine Derbyshire, 41, cousin Julie Preston, 45, from Clayton-le-Moors are running for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Father-of-two Michael Lilley, from Blackburn, will be running his fourth marathon this year as he aims to complete 12 races in 12 months for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 43-year-old is also running in memory of his late wife Elizabeth, who died of terminal cancer last year.

Others include Helen Willis, 51, from Barrow, who is taking part in her first marathon and raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Wheelchair athlete Anthony Gotts, 33, from Helmshore will also be racing through the streets of London.
