THERAPEUTIC musical interventions are being trialled at four East Lancashire care homes.

Medics at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust are rolling out Playlist for Life, a Scottish scheme aimed at dementia sufferers.

Improved mood and awareness have been noticed by residents when ‘meaningful’ playlists are shared in the homes.

Childhood songs, favourite TV theme tunes and jukebox classics could all feature on the favourites compilation.

Four homes, Willowbank, Ashmeade and Abiden in Burnley and Holme Manor, near Rawtenstall, are piloting the initiative.

Adele Thornburn, East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group’s nursing and quality manager, said: “It is hoped the message will spread and more care homes, carers and family members will come on board to have the unique experience of reconnecting with people with dementia through music.”

Training materials can be sent out to any home managers expressing an interest in the project.
