YOUR old fivers will stop being legal tender this year following the introduction of the new polymer £5 note.

The paper note bearing the face of locomotive legend George Stephenson will no longer be accepted in shops from May 5.

The Bank of England has been taking them out of circulation and replacing them with the new Winston Churchill notes.

What happens after May 5?

The old style notes will no longer be legal tender, meaning shops and business will stop accepting them.

Most high street banks are expected to continue to accept them for the foreseeable future.

What if my bank won't accept them?

All Bank of England notes retain their face value forever. If your bank, building society or Post Office is not willing to accept them they can be exchanged with the Bank of England in London by post or in person.
