THERE was a paw-fect response when a cat owner made a passionate appeal for help to save her feline friend.

Peaches a five-year-old female cat described as ‘a best friend, companion and the one who knows me best’ by owner Stephanie Holmes, was run over by a car close to her home in Pendle Way, Burnley.

Peaches sustained a broken pelvis in three places and her lower jaw was split down the middle.

Stephanie, 22, was facing vets bills of around £3,000 but after appealing for help Accrington based charity ‘Friends Of The Cats’ and Vets 4 Pets Stanley Street stepped into help.

Stephanie, who works at Creepy Creatures pet shop in Burnley, said: “My little fluffy Peaches means everything to me.

“When I found her that morning it broke my heart, she had managed to get home to the garden but was so badly injured and distressed.

“I was told the surgery she needed was very expensive and I couldn’t afford it and could only offer to pay in instalments.

“My friend put me in touch Andy Richards at Friends of The Cats in Accrington.

“He offered to guarantee the vets’ fees so I could pay back over a few months and Vets 4 Pets also agreed to be flexible.

“It was totally overwhelming to have such kindness to help with the treatment for Peaches. She had the surgery a couple of weeks ago and is now back eating normally and playing.

“I’ve got my best friend back so I’d just like to thank everyone for being so kind and understanding.

“It shows that there are god people around who care so much about animals.

“It just makes me so emotional to think that I nearly lost her. They really have given Peaches the gift of life.”

The treatment involved inserting several pins and screws into the cat’s pelvis and her jaw was wired to help it heal.

Andy Richards, who runs ‘Friends Of The Cats’ now plans to hold a Christmas Fair to help pay for the treatment.

He said: “As soon as I spoke to Stephanie I could tell how much Peaches meant to her.

“The charity has acted a guarantee for her bills and we’ve been doing some fundraising to help.”

He added that all proceeds from the charity’s Christmas Fair being held today (Saturday) would go to Peaches’ vets’ bills.

The fair will take place at Accrington Main Library, St James’ Street, from 11am until 3pm.

It will include reptile displays, a visit from Santa and several stalls.
