MOTORISTS were told to avoid the M65 after a second multi-vehicle crash this morning.

Officers were called at 8.25am after six cars collided near junction nine eastbound.

A police spokesman said: "Both lanes are blocked and there is going to be serious delays heading towards Burnley and Colne.

"Motorists should use a different road if at all possible.

"It has been reported that people have suffered minor injuries but it is unclear as to how many.

"The ambulance service is in attendance."

An ambulance service spokesman said there were six casualties.

Three were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with back pain, one was taken to Burnley General Hospital for cuts and bruises and two were discharged at the scene.

He said: "There were three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and a bronze ambulance manager at the scene.

The motorway has now been fully reopened. The cars and debris have been cleared.
