A WIDE range of family friendly activities are available across East Lancashire this weekend.

Tomorrow, East Lancashire Hospice is inviting residents along to Park Lee Road for a Sunflower Celebration.

The event is free to attend and offers the chance to plant a plastic sunflower in remembrance or celebration of a loved one.

Kimberley Hall, hospice fundraiser, said: "We welcome the public to come along on the day.

"We'll be accepting donations at the event and refreshments will be available for all.

"No booking is needed and people can arrive at the hospice from 1pm.

"We look forward to seeing as many as possible joining us."

Other events tomorrow include Darwen's 51st Gala road parade along Anchor Road to Borough Road Arena with the Catherine Dowdal Memorial Run, stalls and entertainment planned throughout the day.

Businesses and voluntary groups wishing to spread awareness are being encouraged to be at the start line for the parade at 12.30pm.

Also on the same day will be a Darwen 1940s event in the Market Square from 10am to 4pm.

Garden lovers can also attend Edgworth and District Horticultural Show at The Barlow Institute as well as Sabden Horticultural Show in the centre of the village.

Brierfield Bridge Club will also be holding an open day from 10am at its Clitheroe Road base to encourage new members.

Music lovers will also descend on Longridge Showground tomorrow for the Rock The Lakes Music Festival.

On Sunday, the traditional Crying of the Fair in Great Harwood will be in the town square from 9am.

Valerie Austin, treasurer for Great Harwood Civic Society, said: "Every year, apart from during the wars, we have honoured our Crying of the Fair with a charity market where people can come and learn more about the town and organisations in the town.

"We invite any locals to join us on this great day and there are plenty of things for children to do."

The Cogheads Motorcycle Club will also be putting on a bike show and family fun day at the Arndale Shopping Centre in Accrington.

From 11am to 4pm bikers will be displaying their motorcycles and live music will be provided from local bands The Switch and Ginpit.

While, families are also invited to a fun day at Burnley's Thompson Park, a craft workshop at the Haworth Art Gallery, hula hooping sessions in Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen.

The weather for Saturday is for heavy and thundery showers from 7am with the weather expected to improve by 10am with sunny spells.

Highest temperatures are forecast as 17C with the lowest temperatures reaching 14C.

The weather will slightly improve on Sunday with lighter winds and showers expected from 4am to 7pm.
