A ‘PARTY house’ in Bacup has been closed after police successfully applied for a court order banning anybody from entering it.

Officers had served a 24-hour emergency closure on the house in Inkerman Street after allegations of anti-social behaviour, drug taking, loud parties and criminal damage being committed by people entering it.

That order was extended by a further two weeks by Burnley Magistrates ahead of another hearing on August 1 where police will apply for a full closure order, banning anybody from entering the house for three months.

PCSO Chris Hamer said a man in his 20s had been living in the house for two years. He did not attend yesterday’s hearing.

PCSO Hamer said: “We have had a high number of complaints regarding an address in Inkerman Street, Bacup.

“The allegations relate to drug taking, drinking in the street, criminal damage to vehicles and late-night parties.

“People are in fear for the safety of themselves and their families.

“The issue has been going on since January but has recently become more severe, which has resulted in us having to progress with a closure order.

“We went to Burnley Magistrates yesterday and went for a full closure order which would prevent anybody entering the property for three months.

“The case was adjourned until August 1. But we requested a full interim closure order which is a temporary order with the restrictions of a full order for the next 13 days which was permitted.

“This was a last resort. With usual nuisance complaints we would wait for the landlord to take out eviction proceedings. But that would take a number of months. Due to the effect of this man’s alleged behaviour a closure order was the best course of action.

“The male occupant who is in his 20s, has been removed from the address and it has been secured. He had been living there for two years.”

PCSO Hamer said people had been arrested at the house for various offences but they had been released on bail pending further enquiries. He added that in his seven years in the force they had never before had to take out a closure order.

He said: “We take reports of disorder generated from party houses very seriously and we will take action to bring peace to the communities we serve. If people are being effected by this kind of behaviour then I would urge them to call police on 101.”
