A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after an incident at a Bacup shoe shop where a female member of staff was threatened with a knife.

The armed robbery at Wynsors World of Shoes in Newchurch Road led to police issuing CCTV images of a suspect wearing a distinctive flat-cap who sported a ‘web’ tattoo on his face and escaped on a bike.

Police said that on Friday a a 26 year old man from Bacup was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been bailed pending further enquiries until July 21.

The incident, which police said left the employee ‘extremely shaken’ allegedly happened at around 3.30pm to 3.45pm on June 13.

The thief escaped with more than £200 in cash and two pairs of shoes, police said.

Speaking after the robbery, DC Mark Whitehead from Burnley CID said: “This was a shocking ordeal for the member of staff who has been left unharmed but very shaken.

“The offender may not have got away with a massive amount of money but it’s the impact on the woman, just there to do a day’s work, who had a large knife pointed at her.

“We know that the man entered and left the area on his bike so if you saw him, know who he is, or you have any information that could assist us with our investigation, please get in touch.”
