TWO East Lancashire people were arrested yesterday after warrants were executed at addresses in Blackburn and Accrington as part of an investigation into a large scale "disturbance".

Merseyside police have already arrested 33 people after trouble erupted in Liverpool city centre in February.

The disorder was part of a rally staged by the far-right group North West Infidels around Lime Street Street station and St George’s Hall.

The event saw a counter-demonstration by anti-fascist organisations.

Hundreds of police officers kept the opposing sides apart during the day.

Officers attended addresses in Blackburn, Accrington, Dovecot in Liverpool, Cheshire and Midlothian, Scotland, as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident and made a number of arrests.

Yesterday, a 34-year-old man, a 42-year-old man, a 24-year-old woman, a 19-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man were all being questioned after being arrested for conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

Detectives are also continuing to appeal for anyone who hasn’t already submitted video footage or photographs they took on the day to get in touch.

DS Louise Birchall, from the Major Crime Unit, said: “We are currently pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to identify any other people who may have been involved in criminal acts and disorder committed during that afternoon.

“We are aware that a large number of people who were there on the day, including those people who were simply bystanders, managed to film or take photographs of what happened on their cameras and their mobile phones.

“We would ask anyone who has such footage and who hasn’t already done so to supply it to us so we can identify the people responsible and bring them to justice.”

Anyone with footage or photographs can email them to disorder@merseyside.police.uk.
