A NEIGHBOURHOOD watch group is being set up after a spate of incidents in the past month in Bacup.

Police in Rossendale are inviting residents to establish the group following the incidents in Ramsey Avenue recently.

On April 25 Lancashire Police were called at 8.30am after reports of a car being broken into and the passenger window smashed.

Nothing was reported to have been taken from the Vauxhall Corsa.

On May 3 police were called at 12.20pm after a person approached rear of a house through garden area, tried to force the back door but was disturbed by somebody in the house and made off without managing to take anything.

On May 14 a person walked in to a house through the front door but was disturbed and fled the scene.

The incident happened at around 2.50am and the police said that the occupiers were not in bed.

On Saturday a glass pane of a conservatory was smashed but the offender did not get into the house.

A police spokesman said: “We are asking residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour to us on 101.

“In the event you believe a crime is in progress, please call 999 immediately.

“Local PCSO Chris Hamer is inviting residents to start up a neighbourhood watch on the street.

“Neighbouring streets have started up a watch with our support which has seen a decrease in crime on their patch and important information being shared which has led to an arrest of a local man.

“We can’t do this alone, we need your help to bring crime down in your community.
