On arrival at the park, firefighters found a bin on fire which they suspect had been ignited by youths.
A number of youngsters were seen running away from the incident.
Members of the crew discovered a fire had also been lit in the woods close by.
Approximately five square metres of woodland was damaged.
Crew Manager, Lee Garnett, from Padiham fire station, said: "Although this appears to be a minor incident for firefighters, it is important to understand that due to this deliberate act, the only fire engine in Padiham was unavailable for more important emergency calls and this delay could cost lives."
