Beardmore, of Martholme Lane, Great Harwood, was convicted after trial of two assaults on Sophie Lloyd.

He was made subject to community supervision for 18 months with 200 hours unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation, £300 costs and £60 victim surcharge.

The magistrates imposed a restraining order for 18 months which prevents him from having any contact with Miss Lloyd.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said the first incident had been a single blow but the attack in the early hours of the following morning was prolonged.

Miss Lloyd had been out with her friends and when she got home sent the defendant, who was also out, a text to say she was home.

“He replied that he wouldn’t be far behind but in fact didn’t come home until 5am,” said Mrs White.

“She was asleep in bed but he insisted on speaking to her. She told him he was being childish and immediately felt a blow to her right cheek.”

When Miss Lloyd tried to get out of bed he stopped her but then kicked and kneed her out of bed. She left the room and spoke to her sister but later he pushed her to the floor and then bit her cheek.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client still maintained his denials.

“There is no opposition to a restraining order being made,” said Mr Price.

“He has no desire to reconcile.”
