Plans have now been lodged with the borough council for a new studio at the grade II listed landmark on the banks of the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

Ian Scholes, who spoke exclusively to the Lancashire Telegraph about his plans to generate 200 jobs at Slater Terrace, during a showpiece event to celebrate the On The Banks project, has backed the venture.

Beki Ess, who has a full-time studio manager and an apprentice, and has more than eight-and-a-half years experience, said: “I look forward to being able to enjoy a quiet, private studio, in an area which will be such an inspiring and creative place.”

She has received a grant from Burnley Enterprise to advance her work and is now said to have a six-month waiting list for appointments.

Her ambition is to ‘dispel the stigma’ surrounding many tattoo outfits, with separate areas for the reception, studio and tattoo area, over three floors. Currently she has a base in Blackburn Road, Accrington.

Mr Schofield said: “Beki has built a fantastic business, starting with a small grant several years ago and worked hard to use her creativity and skills to develop an excellent business.

“Spacious Place is committed to showcasing talent, providing opportunities and helping individuals and business’s grow to be a sustainable, positive part of the community.

“We are very excited about having Beki and the Inkognito team as part of the Spacious Place family at Slater Terrace.”

The firm is working on developing a 90-seat call centre within Slater Terrace and is hopeful more tenants can be attracted to the waterfront location.

Part of their remit will also be to also support peopleinto the world of work.
