THE discovery of a dead body, a bailiff having his car stolen, and a man exposing himself outside a school were all incidents highlighted by police yesterday.

Lancashire Constabulary officers took to Twitter to post updates throughout the day to show the demands placed on the force.

Using the hashtag #PoliceDemand, users on the social networking site were able to track the jobs officers across Lancashire were called to.

Among the incidents was the assault of a man in his late 20s in Bank Hey Street, Blackburn, at 7.40am, who was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital after being found covered in blood.

A 37-year-old man, also from Blackburn, was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and was in custody last night.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Officers were also called to Brennand Street, Burnley at 8.05am after the man exposed himself to two girls.

The pervert was described as white, of a large build, six feet tall, with short dark hair and facial hair, and wearing a black hooded top and jeans.

And the parents of a nine-year-old boy were warned and referred to social services after staff at a Pendle school reported he was home alone.

It later emerged he was being cared for by an older sibling, thought to be a teenager, police said.

Elsewhere in the county, officers in Blackpool were found a body in a house after neighbours raised the alarm.

Yesterday’s exercise coincided with a conference held at the force’s headquarters in Hutton yesterday, where senior officers and partners gathered to discuss the changing nature of policing.

Chief Constable Steve Finnigan said: “As a police service we are facing diminishing budgets and other resourcing pressures, at a time when statistics show that crime is falling and yet we feel busier than ever .”

The use of social media by police is nothing new, with the occasional light-hearted tweet catching users’ imagination.

Greater Manchester Police’s Urmston team made headlines earlier this week after writing: “Annoyed with your drug dealer? Tell us who it is and we’ll have a word with them.”
