VETERAN hairdresser Jeff Stone is on the lookout for an expert to paint his barber shop pole.
The 67-year-old, who took over his Fleming Square shop almost 45 years ago, said “retirement is in the hair” but not until he finds a specialist to complete his heritage project.

Mr Stone said: “ This is a plea from the heart before I retire after 52 years, I would like to leave this heritage piece in the manner it should be left.”
Mr Stone was trained by his father Charles Henry in Audley Range, with his first day being 52 years ago yesterday, before taking over the shop over in 1971.
It was then the old pole was knocked off. Its replacement, the current pole, was installed by a now long-retired sign maker.
And despite his best efforts, Mr Stone has been unable to find a suitable specialist to restore it.
The traditional barber’s pole dates back to the Middle Ages and has a rather gruesome history.
During medieval times, barbers would perform minor surgeries, including tooth extractions. The red stripe signifies blood stained bandages, with the white represent clean ones.
