RESIDENTS are being urged to make sure their doors are locked before going to bed.

The warning comes as police have said they have seen an increase in the number of burglaries where the thieves were able to walk straight into properties.

Inspector Graham Marshall said the issue was particularly problematic in the Burnley and Padiham areas, although a spike had been seen right across East Lancashire.

He said: “Whilst we are stepping up high-visibility patrols, we would like to remind residents to lock their doors.

“Some of the houses we have seen broken into are unsecure.

“This is happening right across East Division.”

“People are checking doors.”
