The 28-year-old former solider’s previous longest stint is 200 miles and he hopes to take the record of American Dean Karnazes who completed the distance in North California in 2005.

The challenge forms part of the dad-of-two’s attempt to break ten world records by the time he is 35.

He has previously completed 18 marathons in 18 days in 2013 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and in tribute to the 18 servicemen from Lancashire who had lost their lives in recent conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

He also ran 365 miles from Preston to the Menin Gate at Ypres in five days to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War,.

The challenge saw him completing up to 74 miles a day over five consecutive days.

The former Ribblesdale High School student served as a kingsman in the Duke of Lancaster Regiment before leaving in 2008.

He is aiming to raise £10,000 to cover the trip and is currently choosing which charity to support for the run.

At the end of the year David is also planning to break the world record running time from Lands End to John O’Groats, which stands at nine days and 20 hours.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to it and it’s going to be a huge challenge for me.

“This will be the hardest thing I have taken on yet and it’s going to take a lot of preparation.

“I will be doing a lot of training and I have to build up my mental strength to make sure I can complete the run.

“I run between 100 miles and 120 miles per week and I believe that I have enough in me to be able to do this.

“Iceland will be a picturesque place to complete this challenge.”
