‎AN investigation is under way after two teenagers were allegedly injured during a row on the top deck of a bus heading back from Manchester’s Christmas markets.

The alleged incident took place on the X43 service just before 9pm on Saturday after Burnley FC fans verbally abused a passenger on the journey between the city centre and Rawtenstall.

When the bus arrived close to a stop in Bank Street, Rawtenstall, police said two of the teenagers were assaulted and needed hospital treatment.

A police spokesman said: “We received a call, just before 8.50pm on Saturday, to a report of fighting between males on the top deck of the bus. An ambulance was called and two people were taken to Burnley General Hospital for treatment.

“A 40-year-old man from Burnley, who had left the scene, was later arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed until December 11.”

Investigating officers are expected to study CCTV footage as the alleged confrontation happened just yards from a roof-mounted camera.

The bus was allowed to continue on its journey to Burnley and Nelson after a delay of around half an hour.
