LEADING a senior school through the last year has been an ‘epic journey’, its principal said.

Lynne Horner was speaking during Westholme’s annual prizegiving ceremony, when the successes and achievements of pupils were celebrated.

This year’s GCSE and A-Level students were acknowledged for the best and outstanding results from this summer’s exams.

Lucy Baxter and Eleanor Neild were given the Principal’s Award, which was introduced this year and is given to students who contribute to the school’s ethos, show good conduct and have continuous support for the Westholme’s aims and values Pupils in Calder house were also presented with the House Entertainment Trophy, the House General Knowledge Trophy and the House Championship Shield.

Mrs Horner, who joined the independent school in September last year, told pupils, staff and parents: “As always, the last year at Westholme was a rich tapestry of events and trips. It was a year of change, innovation, reflection, nostalgia, excitement and success, not all in equal measure.

“Schools are always about a journey — a tale of ups and downs — but ultimately schools are about learning. I’ve learnt many things during my first year as principal at Westholme.

“For me, in a roller coaster year of change both personally and professionally, I give my heartfelt and sincere thanks to my senior staff team for their unerring support, dedication, hard work and vital sense of humour. Leading and being part of this team has been an epic journey already and I look forward to the next year.

“I congratulate everyone for all your achievements and learning last year, however great or small. The future at Westholme is bright.”
