Burglary gang member from Blackburn jailed for 57 months

A BURGLAR who was part of a gang responsible for 26 break-ins and attempted burglaries has been jailed for more than four-and-a-half years.

Intruders who ‘snapped’ the locks off UPVC doors in Blackburn, Burnley, Brierfield, Accrington and Nelson, have previously been imprisoned for sentences totalling more than 15 years.

Mehtab Ahmed, 33, was one of four men caught red-handed after a botched burglary in Wensley Fold, Blackburn.

An eyewitness alerted police and the quartet was followed back to the Bradford area in a Mazda Premacy car.

Ahmed, of Galloway Lane, Pudsey, near Leeds, admitted conspiracy to burgle and was jailed for 57 months at Preston Crown Court.

Prosecutors said their main target was stealing gold jewellery from Asian households in East Lancashire.

The gang was caught after a joint operation by police in Lancashire and West Yorkshire, with the majority of the gang hailing from the Bradford area.
