New police commissioner to visit East Lancashire towns

LANCASHIRE’S new ‘sheriff’ is set to ride into towns across the area as part of a countywide meet and greet tour.

Labour county councillor and newly-installed police comissioner Clive Grunshaw will be looking to put his expenses embarrassment behind him as he kicks off his fact-finding mission in Nelson on January 11.

Later that day he will be visiting Asda in Colne before heading to the bandstand in St James Street, Burnley, on January 15, and Clitheroe’s Booth’s supermarket for 1.30pm.

Mr Grunshaw said: “I am very much looking forward to the tour. This role is about talking to people, listening to concerns and reiterating them to the police force.

“The coming year will be about how the community's views can further improve policing in Lancashire.”

His tour continues with a date outside Blackburn Town Hall on January 22, from 9am, and an 11.45am stop-off in Accrington.

He will also be at Asda in Clayton Green, Chorley, from 10am on January 25.

Mr Grunshaw added: “I will be drafting a Police and Crime Plan, outlining what areas of work Lancashire Constabulary should prioritise over the coming years.

“This plan will not reflect my views - it will reflect the views of the Lancashire community. I need people to get involved in these events and help shape that plan.

“I urge as many people as possible to come to the events. This is just the first phase of the roadshows, with more planned for later this year.”

The commissioner is currently awaiting the outcome of an Independent Police Complaint Commission inquiry into a complaint regarding his expenses while a county councillor and member of the police authority.

So, the policing of Lancs is to be determined by the results of "roadshows".

Hell fire !!

I thought that policing the County was of major importance.

I'm sure Mr Grunshaw would like to put his 'expenses embarrassment' behind him.
'Expenses embarrassment' is a euphemism for double dipping his expenses - actions that he has admitted to.

The results of the IPCC enquiry can be nothing other than 'allo 'allo, your nicked, my son!

I was never in favour of having a police commissionaire, This proves what a waste of public money this post is. I noticed the working class Tories have already commented on a labour man, completely missing the real issue as usual.

one minor problem about the dates and times, how the hell are people who are working are supposed to attend ?!

what a tool.

This man has already admitted making 'mistakes' with his expenses. He should do one of two things. Lay low until such time any Investigation against him is completed or resign.
He'll do neither as he's a Politition. By the way when he has to go who will replace him ? His deputy nominated by him,who only came to light when Grunshaw, was 'elected'
Another fine example of Camerons Democracy.

Welcome to Authoritarianism. You don't need moral standards while representing the public these days just an hunger to grab what you can from anyone you can. Its what happens when everything starts collapsing the ones in charge grab what they can to sort themselves out and don't give a f@rt about the rest of us..

Maybe the Asian scumbag bullies that target young boys walking home alone will jump him while he has a look around Nelson. Maybe not he's above 5ft tall far to big for three asian men to take on.
You should really begin to ignore all this pathetic data that you seem to be relying on, info-warrior. Not that I am disputing the level of extreme law breaking these culprits would resort to, but the personal identity descriptions that are seriously misleading and dangerously under estimated.

How can he expect us to take him seriously? Surely any 'Police and Crime Plan' will be based on the fundamental principle that everyone is expected to act within the law- except the Commissioner himself obviously!

In the mind of the Commissioner, does Rossendale not exist, or is it just not worth visiting?

No body wanted PCC's in the first place and that was reflected in the historicaly low number of people who bothered to vote.
.
I'm sure that those who did bother to vote certainly didn't want someone who was instantly under suspicion of a fraud expenses claim.
.
Why has this man not been suspended or at least had the decency to step aside until the IPCC investigation is complete?
.
What an absolute farce. This man and indeed the role of PCC will never have any credibility.

Driving round all day - visiting a host of towns?

Think of the expenses claims!

Don't worry Rossendale's rottendoc! Mr Grunshaw is capable of time travel (at least as far as his expenses are concerned!) He will be able to visit you at the same time as Colne! And more importantly claim for both (again!)!
