Demolition has started on a block of 23 sheltered housing flats in Coppull.

The flats, at The Willows in Dickens Road, are owned by Chorley Community Housing (CCH).

They have been empty since last summer.

Richard Houghton, director of operations with CCH, said: “Once the tenants moved out of the flats we undertook to get the block down as quickly as we could.

"I'm pleased to say that work has finally started and that the contractor has removed the windows and stripped out most of the interiors of the flats.”

The flats had not been at full occupation for several years and attempts to attract new tenants in 2010 did not succeed.

Once demolished, the land will be retained in CCH's ownership and kept for future development.

Mr Houghton added: “We will be grassing the cleared site and maintaining it as open space until such time as we have identified another use for the land.”
