A ROAD closure has sparked worries for villagers in Chorley.

MP Rt Hon Lindsay Hoyle is concerned about Spendmoor Lane in Coppull being closed for water works this week until April 6.

Mr Hoyle said: “This is a major bus route for people travelling from Wigan to Chorley.

“It also provides great transport links but with the closure we need to have more alternatives so they can still access buses and not have to walk as some of them are elderly.

“I have been asking for a shuttle service being put on so they can get access to Chorley.”

Cllr Richard Toon, who represents the Coppull ward on Chorley Council, said: “This is causing a huge amount of disruption to people.

“It is making it awkward to get across the village and is also adding time delays to their journey times as there is one road to take a detour which is a mile and a half.

“There was a formal public notice letting people know about the works.

“It is also a main thoroughfare for people coming from the motorway (the M6) and with the road closure they may not be from the area but will get confused by some of the directions. Also there are quite a few heavy goods vehicles who use the road too and they may not know about the changes in the area.”
