Hundreds attend first health Mela
4:38pm Wednesday 26th September 2012 in Chorley
The first Leyland Health Mela at the Civic Centre proved to be a real winner with residents.
More than 400 visitors used the opportunity to explore stalls showing off the latest developments and ideas in health care. Among the many attractions were free health checks and advice.
These were provided by the Health Olympics team of senior medical students from the University of Manchester who checked blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol etc. and offered friendly advice. More than 150 of these health MOTs were carried out. Eyes and ears were on the agenda too and queues formed for these tests too. Many visitors sampled the complementary therapies including Ayurvedic medicine, Reiki and Indian head massage.
