Nightly closures of the westbound M65 near Hoghton will start at the end of the month.

A £69,000 Highways Agency scheme to carry out targeted resurfacing and tackle potholes and surface cracks will get underway on September 27 and should be completed by Thursday, October 11.

The work will be taking place along the 4.5-mile westbound stretch of the motorway between junction 4 at Blackburn and junction 3 at Riley Green.

All the overnight closures will take place between 10pm and 5am except on Saturday and Sunday mornings when the westbound carriageway will re-open at 7am.

Highways Agency project sponsor Jakub Malaj said: “This is essential maintenance to ensure motorway users in this part of Lancashire can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys.

“Doing this work now will extend the life of the carriageway and reduce incidents calling for unplanned repairs which can close lanes and lead to congestion for drivers.

“Traffic levels are very light along this stretch of the motorway network overnight and we are not anticipating significant delays.

“A good diversion will be in place but drivers should leave a little bit of extra time to complete journeys.”
