Nine face trial over football violence in Chorley

Nine men will face trial accused of taking part in violence after a football match in Chorley last year.

The men face charges of violent disorder after the Evo Stik first division clash between Chorley FC and Chester on February 19, 2011.

Colin Dunn, 23, of Park Road, Chorley, admitted a charge of violent conduct following the match and will be sentenced after reports have been prepared.

The others will face trial on June 11 in Preston.

They are: Carl Unsworth, 29, of Canal Walk, Chorley; Gareth Roberts, 29, of Draperfield, Chorley; Paris Blackburn, 23, of Bolton Road, Chorley; Lee Woodcock, 33, of Marian Drive, Great Boughton, Chester; Samuel Hay, 22, of New Laurence House, Shawheath Close, Hulme, Manchester; Stephen Kay, 39, of Longacre, Clayton Brook; Anthony Kay, 42, of Lyon Road, Keighley; Martin Lacey, 24, of Lancaster Court, Chorley and Anthony Farrell, of Ardeen Walk, Manchester.

The men have been granted bail and are banned from attending paid for football matches.

At the height of the disorder, police horses, dogs and the force helicopter were deployed.

Both teams were subsequently promoted to the Evo-Stik Premier League and were due play each other again at Victory Park last Saturday.

However, the game was called of due to a frozen pitch.
