Images released of Chorley golf club raid suspects

Police have released images of two men they are keen to speak to about a series of linked £750,000 golf club burglaries, including one in Chorley.

The case featured on BBC1’s Crimewatch programme in January but the appeal failed to generate any new leads for police, although it did prompt officers from other forces to come forward with similar undetected crimes that police believe to be linked.

The total number of crimes believed to have been carried out by the two offenders over the past 12 to 15 months has now increased to 60 with a total value of stolen property estimated to be in the region of £750,000.

The thefts included one at Chorley Golf Club on September 1, 2009 and one at Leyland Golf Club four days later.

The new images clearly show the two men within locker rooms at Dainton Park in South Devon removing clubs from lockers.

Clubs across Lancashire were targeted between April and September 2009 with five golf clubs burgled in just one day at Hurlston Hall golf club, Ormskirk golf club, Dean Wood golf club in Upholland, Chorley golf club and Ashton and Lea golf club, at Preston. Detective Sergeant Dave Atherton from Leyland CID said: “I am hoping that with these new images, someone will be able to identify these men. They have targeted victims up and down the country and need to be caught.

“The offenders have typically gained access to the clubs during late afternoon into the early evening.

“They have forced lockers and selectively stolen the more expensive clubs so they clearly know what they are doing.”
