Coppull housing scheme residents will be allowed to stay

Chorley Community Housing has confirmed that it has taken a decision regarding the future of The Willows sheltered housing scheme in Coppull.

They will not be attempting to let any of the empty flats in the scheme.

However, residents currently living there will be allowed to stay.

The news follows a three month consultation period with residents after plans were announced to close the scheme entirely.

There was widespread anger at the decision by residents forcing a re-think.

Director of Operations Richard Houghton said: "The board considered the options for the future of The Willows and decided that insufficient suitable applicants had been identified for the 11 flats that are currently empty and that the situation was highly unlikely to improve in the years to come.

"We are therefore not going to be attempting to let any of the empty flats at the scheme.

"We will be talking to the remaining residents to see who wishes to move in the light of this decision.

"However, I have written to all remaining residents today explaining that, if they so wish, they can remain in their homes.

"We will continue to offer all the support that residents need should they not wish to move at the present time.”
