PLANS to turn the old Camelot site into a housing development have been submitted.

Story Homes is proposing to build 195 homes on the 16 hectare site at Park Hall Road near Charnock Richard.

The current plan is less than half what the firm originally proposed in 2014, when they submitted plans for 420 homes, which was rejected.

The plans also state that 80 jobs will be created, as the plans include a development office and small-scale starter/workshop units. They will use local sub-contractors and suppliers where possible, delivering economic benefits to the area.

Story Homes’ development planner Siobhan Sweeney said: “Over the last 18 months we have been working hard to create a smaller scheme for the Camelot site that responds to the comments we received during our previous application.

"The former Camelot theme park is in desperate need of regeneration and we want to replace this eyesore with a high quality scheme that local residents and businesses will be proud of.”

The park was closed in November 2012 by operators Knights Leisure.
