A CARE home that is being investigated over allegations of abuse against a resident has now closed its doors for the last time.

Last month, the Lancashire Telegraph revealed how five members of staff had been suspended at Lake View Nursing Home in Withnell and days later the Care Quality Commission (CQC) published a damning report on failings at the home.

The owner, Embrace Group Ltd, said it would be moving residents out and closing Lake View within 28 days, and has confirmed this week that the home is now closed.

Meanwhile, police said they are still investigating the abuse claims, which centre on film footage thought to have been recorded on a hidden camera in one of the rooms.

Embrace has refused to reveal further details about the allegations and what the film footage contains.

Days after the allegations emerged, the CQC published a report that labelled Lake View as “inadequate” after an inspection in October.

Concerns included poor medicines management, significant health and safety risks, a high reliance on agency staff, staff training and shortcomings in the complaints process.

The son of one former resident, who moved out before the recent allegations, said: “The closure of the home comes as no shock to me, as it was very badly organised and always short staffed.

“It will be no great loss, but I feel sorry for the old residents who have had to find a new home.”

He said his mother was charged £600 per week, and the home also received about £100 from the NHS each week for her care.

A spokesman for Embrace said: “We can confirm that the home is now closed. All residents have found alternative settings for their individual care needs.

“We can also confirm that we have not had any contact from the police.”

A spokesman for Lancashire Constabulary said: “The investigation is still ongoing.”
