ONE of Chorley FC’s biggest fans celebrated the club’s promotion to the Conference North in style – thanks to the Magpies’ main sponsors.

Life-long Magpies supporter Nigel Chadwick said he was ‘bowled over’ when the Chorley Group laid on a chauffeur-driven Bentley Mulsanne S to transport him to the club’s Champions Ball.

The luxury transport was a special surprise for the Chorley pensioner who has supported the Magpies through thick and thin since the 1940s.

Nigel was also given the honour of parading the EvoStik Premier League trophy, flanked by a bagpiper playing a rousing rendition of ‘When The Stripes Go Marching In’.

Nigel said: “When the club said they’d send someone to pick me up, I never expected a chauffeur-driven Bentley to turn it up. It was a wonderful surprise.

Adam Turner, Business Development Director at the Chorley Group, who played the role of chauffeur, said: “Nigel is a Chorley fan through and through and the club couldn’t have picked a more deserving person to parade the trophy.

“After we heard about their plans to make Nigel the guest of honour, we were only too happy to do our bit to make it a real night for him to remember.”

Almost 200 guests attended the ball at The Pines Hotel in Clayton Green to salute the Magpies’ title success.

Manager Garry Flitcroft and chairman Ken Wright both paid tribute to the Chorley public and business community for helping the club secure its first league title since 1988.

The Magpies clinched the EvoStik Premier League title in April after a tense battle with FC United which went down to the final day of the season.
