Chorley Amateur Dramatic Society tackles Talking Heads

First published in Chorley

The new season of plays from Chorley Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society starts on Monday, September 8 with Talking Heads.

Running six nights until September 13, the production at Chorley Little Theatre is written by Alan Bennett.

Directed by Zoe Duffin-Jones, the show features four monologues by very different women, each telling their story in compelling and interesting ways, with Bennett’s distinctive humour and phrasing.

Sara Norse, left, appears as Lesley, an aspiring actress.

After years of disappointment she finally thinks she’s on the verge of her big chance, naively unaware her starring role is in a porn film.

Vicar’s wife Susan is played by Joanne Cunliffe, and is a debt-ridden alcoholic seeking happiness in an affair with the local greengrocer and a bed amongst the lentils.

Sue Hilton stars as Irene, an obsessive lady of letters not afraid to speak her mind.

She writes to everyone from the local chemist to the MP in order to remedy the social ills she sees all around her.

75-year-old Doris is stuck on the floor after a fall, in the final monologue performed by Siobhan Edge.

Alone and injured, she looks back at the life that has led to this situation.

Shot through with humour and warmth, this production gives an intimate glimpse into people’s lives with powerful performances by some of CADOS’s more experienced performers.

Tickets are £6 Monday-Wednesday, £8 Thursday-Saturday from Malcolm’s Musicland 01257 264362 or www.chorleytheatre.com.
