A scheme to help people to cut their energy bills has led to people being better off by an average of over £150 on their annual bills.
And for one person, the energy switch support service launched by Chorley Council last month has resulted in a massive £261 saving — representing an 18 per cent saving.
The one-to-one service helps people search for the best possible deal from energy providers. The service not only takes them through the switching process, but also helps with any ‘aftercare’ issues there may be once the switch has taken place.
Elaine Thomas from Chorley was one of the first to take advantage of the new service.
She said: “I wanted more information about how I can pay less for my gas and electricity so I made an appointment and it has been successful. I’ve saved over £100 by switching and I’ll save a lot more if do online billing.
“People assume they’re on the best tariff but it’s important to get expert and independent advice. I’m glad I did, I wouldn’t have known where to start.”
Councillor Graham Dunn, who oversees housing issues for Chorley Council said: “We knew there were people who were perhaps put off by the switching process itself or were unable to do so because they hadn’t got access to a computer, and because of that they were needlessly paying too much for their energy.
“I would urge people to book an appointment with our independent energy switching expert who will take them through the process to make sure they are getting the best deal from energy suppliers.”
