A new scheme to help people to cut the cost of their energy bills has been launched.

The energy switching support service is a one-to-one service which will help people search for the best deal from energy providers.

The service is being offered at Chorley Council’s civic offices in Union Street every Monday from 9am to 5pm.

Booking is essential and hour-long appointments can be made by phoning the council on 01257 515151 or emailing contact@chorley.gov.uk.

Councillor Peter Wilson, deputy leader of Chorley Council said: “In the last year we’ve twice joined forces with other councils across Lancashire as part of the People Power campaign to ‘bulk buy’ gas and electricity at auctions.

“This has led to some households switching suppliers for better deals which is good, however, we felt that some haven’t benefited because they were perhaps put off by the switching process itself, or because they don’t have access to a computer.

“So now people can book an appointment with an independent energy switching expert who will be able to take them through the whole process.”

Once an appointment is made those taking part will need to bring their most recent energy bills, or their Annual Energy Statement and a recent meter reading.

The advisor will do a web search of OFGEM approved independent comparison sites, based on the information given, which will generate tariff options to consider.

If switching to a cheaper tariff, the advisor will contact the current supplier to help with the switching process and will also deal with any ‘aftercare’ issues.
