Treasures to be illuminated with once a year spectacular event
Astley Hall is set to undergo a glowing transformation for two nights as more than 200 candles and LED spotlights are brought in to illuminate the historic building as part of the national Museums at Night festival.
From 5.30pm until 10pm on Saturday and Sunday, the entire hall will be illuminated with spotlights and candles focussing on paintings, tapestries and furniture.
All are welcome and there will be music and mystery objects to entertain visitors plus the members of the Friends of Astley Hall group will be dressed in costume to create a magical event.
Chorley Council’s director of people and places Jamie Carson said: “If you’ve never been and had a look around Astley Hall or you’ve only ever visited during the day, this is a fantastic opportunity to see the hall and the many treasures it holds in all its glory. “This event only happens once a year and we wanted to create a special experience for visitors.
“The effect the spotlights and candles have on the Hall is magnificent and is definitely worth seeing, so bring the whole family along to the event from this weekend.”
The Museums at Night festival is an annual weekend of late openings and special events taking place in museums, galleries, libraries and archive and heritage sites all over the UK.
