Chorley MP backs meningitis vaccine
10:53am Thursday 5th September 2013 in Chorley
CHORLEY MP Lindsay Hoyle is backing a charity campaign to see a new lifesaving vaccine for meningitis introduced He decided to do so after hearing how the disease had devastated local families.
He is supporting Meningitis UK and the Meningitis Trust’s ‘Beat it Now’ campaign, pressing the Government to make the revolutionary Meningitis B vaccine, Bexsero, available to all children on the NHS.
In July, the independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, said the vaccine should “not yet” be included on the NHS.
Mr Hoyle said: “After hearing how the deadly disease has seen families in my area lose loved ones or people suffer life-changing after-effects, I had to do something.
“I heard about Beat it Now and immediately decided to unite behind it as the sooner this groundbreaking vaccine is readily available the more lives it will save. I do not want anyone else to go through a similar, life-changing ordeal.”
“It’s simple, the Government needs to act and put this great vaccine on the NHS immediately.”
